The XI. World Congress of Psychiatry took place in Hamburg from the 6th to the 11th of August, 1999.This ecumenical encounter was attended by over 8000 participants who came together from 117 different countries. Recent scientific findings and health care proposals were discussed in 583 scientific sessions, including a special track for young psichiatrists. A wide-ranging social and cultural program include a sensitive review of deep historical and ethical issues. Its fellowship program was offered to 121 outstanding young psychiatrists from 73 different countries. The Jean Delay Prize and the Leaders of Psychiatry Awards were conferred for the first time.
This prize, recognizes integrative biological, psychological, and social approaches to psychiatric problems.
Its procedures and funding are developed and updated by the Executive Committee.
