The X. World Congress of Psychiatry took place in Madrid from the 23rd to the 28th of August, 1996.
It has been widely regarded as a highly sucessful World Congress with a record attendance of over 11,000 participants from 112 countries. Noteworthy was the diversity and quality of its scientific sessions, within which debates, meet-the-expert sessions and other interactive opportunities were particularly well received. Also conspicuous was the approval of the Madrid Declaration on Ethical Standards for Psychiatric Practice and the extensive press coverage the Congress received.
