Dear Colleagues,
In line with the WPA Action Plan 2008-2011, WPA has been is in the process of improving its organizational image and identity, and the WPA Media Channels had played an important role in this process. WPA Media Channels (WPA News, the official newsletter of WPA; WPA Online, the web site of WPA; WPA E-Bulletin, the electronic bulletin of WPA) were re-constructed and improved to be in concert both in their contents and aesthetics. The general perspective has been to reach the elegancy in simplicity. WPA Media Channels were enriched along with this standpoint to raise their efficiency, both at inter-organizational and intra-organizational levels.
WPA Media Channels had managed to mirror the voice of all the WPA Components. Requests for contributions were sent out regularly and any submitted item was published after an edition and approval process. SG, as the editor of these media channels, monitored this route with the collaboration of the President and the EC members, and the WPA Secretariat staff, in a harmonized manner.
The renewal of the website and the transfer of the webmaster and the server, aiming to improve the global impact of the WPA website by revising its content, infrastructure, visual design and process of maintenance, started by early 2009 and finalized in a year. After through discussions in the EC, in order to enhance the readability, usability, and impact of the website, the technical administration of the website was transferred to a new IT company. The SG worked very closely with the IT staff and a totally reconstructed new website was published on April 12, 2010. A brief report of this process was posted on the website. General statistics on the performance of the website for the last 15 months (see below) reflect a wide acceptance across the world. As the editor and the WPA Secretary General I have been facilitating this process with the cooperation of the EC members and our past and current administrators, A. Engström and F. Sotgiu, and our webmaster, Hande Kiziltug from the Istanbul based agency “Saglik Bahcesi - Uzak Yakin".
In fact, the website is a highly flexible living platform where we could explore further improvements continuously. I hope the users of WPA Online will continue to help us in improving the quality of our web site by sending their comments and suggestions.
Levent Kuey
WPA Secretary General
Editor, WPA Online
