A working group has been created to develop a Mental Health Policy for the Republic of Armenia within the framework of a signed Memorandum of Understanding between Ministry of Health of the Republic of Armenia and Open Society Foundations - Armenia.
Representatives of the following areas are involved in the working group: Ministry of Health of the Republic of Armenia, Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs of the Republic of Armenia, Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Armenia, Parliament of the Republic of Armenia, psychiatric and psychological services, higher educational systems and NGOs like Armenian Psychiatric Association, Helsinki Citizen’s Assembly (Vanazhor office), “Khnamk” NGO and Mental Health Foundation.
The Chair of the working group is Armen Soghoyan, President of the Armenian Psychiatric Association, and the Head of the Licensing Agency of Ministry of Health of Republic of Armenia.
An expert from Open Society Foundations, Zsolt Bugarszki, PhD, is involved in the project. It is also planned to attract specialists from other international as well as local health and legal sectors for further expert conclusions in order to make the policy to be developed even more holistic and comprehensive.
The preliminary version of the policy is to be presented for discussion in August 2012.
