The Cyprus Psychiatric Association organized a Symposium on “Medical Ethics, Group Psychotherapy and Person Centered Medicine”, on 13-14 January 2012 at the University of Nicosia.
The Symposium was organized by the Cyprus Mental Health Commission and was under the auspices of the Cyprus Minister of Health and the Cyprus Medical Association. The total number of participants was 112 (psychiatrists, other medical practitioners, medical students, registrars on medical specialties and psychologists).
The coordinator of the symposium on Person Centered Medicine was Prof. Juan Enrique Mezzich, President of the International Network for Person Centered Medicine.
The coordinators of the symposium in Medical Ethics were Prof. George Christodoulou, President-Elect of the World Federation for Mental Health, and Mr. Georghios Pikis, former President of the Supreme Court of Cyprus and formerly a judge of the International Criminal Court-Appeals Division.
The coordinator of the symposium on Group Psychotherapy was Prof. Pavlos Kymissis, Professor of Psychiatry and Dean of St. George’s University of London, Cyprus Medical Program at the University of Nicosia.
The meeting was closed by the speech of the Emeritus Professor of Psychiatry at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Charalambos Ierodiakonou.
The Symposium provided a unique opportunity to bring together psychiatrists and other medical practitioners on a fruitful discussion about ethical issues and holistic and person centered approaches in medicine.
