DGPPN Congress: 27-30 November 2013
“From Therapy to Prevention”

The Congress of the German Association for Psychiatry, Psychotherapy and Psychosomatics (DGPPN) is one of the annual highlights for scientists, doctors and therapists. Each year more than 9,000 participants and 1,600 speakers meet at the end of November in Berlin, making the Congress Europe’s largest scientific meeting in the field of mental disorders. This year the DGPPN is emphasising a highly topical theme “From Therapy to Prevention”.

In medicine, the emphasis is shifting towards prevention: the gain in healthy years is a result mainly of early detection of or intervention in diseases and of a reduction in illness risk through lifestyle changes. This is also true for mental disorders. Promising developments in prevention can be seen in alcohol disorders and dementia, for example. Outpatient psychiatry and psychotherapy is thereby increasingly developing into a place for efficient preventative intervention.

This highly topical issue is at the heart of this year’s DGPPN Congress (27-30 November 2013, International Congress Centrum, Berlin). International experts will also address the neurobiological principles of prevention.

Congress registration and submission of scientific contributions for the following three categories opens mid-February:

  • Thematic Symposia
Duration: 90 minutes (maximum 4 speakers)
15-20 minute lectures, each with 5 minutes discussion
Abstract submission deadline: 8 April 2013
  • Oral Presentations
    Duration: 10 minutes per presentation
Abstract submission deadline: 28 June 2013
  • Posters
