The WPA Section on Psychoanalysis in Psychiatry (PIP) has been very active throughout 2013. We had numerous projects for Istanbul and we have all been very struck by the difficulties that face congress organisers in so many parts of the world today. This gives us a further pretext to endeavour to make the voice of modern psychiatry, presently in action worldwide, heard in our desire to assist everywhere we can and all those who need our help without any discrimination whatsoever.
This is the message that the PIP Section wants to transmit in the colloquies and seminars we organize. In fact we are ever watchful of giving to everyone the clinical tools which enable them to treat each patient as an individual, taking account of his or her background and resources, both psychical and social.
We were also participants at the Vienna Congress and were mindful of establishing links with other Sections. Here are some examples of the themes suggested in Vienna:
- Intersectional workshop (Section on Biological Psychiatry and Section on Psychoanalysis in Psychiatry): “Role of psychoanalysis in personalized medicine in psychiatry: present and future”.
- Intersectional collaboration workshop forum: “Suicide management and prevention”.
- Section symposium: “New Trends in and Indications for Art Therapy”.
The Psychoanalysis in Psychiatry Section will naturally be represented at Madrid and we look forward to meeting colleagues from a variety of different fields for discussions with a view to enriching our practice and our reflections on the evolution of modern psychiatry.
