The main theme of this scientific meeting will be “Asian mental health: current and future perspectives”. It is an honor to have this opportunity to share the mental health promotion in Asia with different experts from Taiwan and abroad.

The World Psychiatric Association (WPA) Regional Meeting with the theme “Comorbidity between Mental and Physical Disorders” hosted by the Egyptian Psychiatric Association was held in Cairo, Egypt from 26-28 January, 2011 at the Semiramis Intercontinental Hotel.

Mental disorders were known to Ancient Egyptians 5000 years ago. In spite of the mystical beliefs, psychiatric patients were cared for, and treated as were those with physical ailments; for example mental disorders were known as an integral part of heart and uterine disorders. Mental disorders were one entity in Pharonic Egypt.

The WPA Regional Meeting was held in Saint Petersburg, Russia on June 10-12, 2010. It was the first international event of such a level in mental health sphere in Russia. The President of the WPA Prof. Mario Maj, and the members of the Executive Committee provided substantial support during the preparation of the Congress.

We are pleased to invite psychiatrists from all over the world to St Petersburg to take part in the WPA Regional Congress on 10-12 June of 2010. The title of the Congress “Traditions and Innovations in Psychiatry” appeals to the rich experience of European Psychiatry and new contributions from different parts of the world.

The recently concluded World Psychiatric Association (WPA) Regional Meeting, held in Abuja, Nigeria on October 22 -24, 2009, attracted 286 delegates from 19 countries.

The Bangladesh Association of Psychiatrists (BAP) announces with pleasure to hold the WPA Regional Meeting from 21-23 January, 2010 in Dhaka, Bangladesh, a very prestigious meeting in the South Asia region on mental health.

This meeting was held at the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Center in Abuja, Nigeria from 22 – 24 October 2009. It was organized jointly by the Association of Psychiatrists of Nigeria, African Association of Psychiatry and Allied Professions and World Psychiatric Association with support from the World Health Organization.

Many Asian countries are regularly affected by disasters and face their tragic aftermath. Some recent examples include the Indian Ocean tsunami, the earthquake in Pakistan, issues of internally displaced persons in Pakistan and Sri Lanka, and cyclones in Bangladesh, India and Myanmar.
