At the end of July, the World Psychiatric Association (WPA) co-sponsored and supported the International Psychiatric Conference in Lahore, Pakistan, organised by the Pakistan Psychiatric Research Centre organised an International Psychiatric Conference at Lahore, Pakistan.
The conference, which took place on the 30th July to 1st August, was also co-sponsored by the Asian Federation of Psychiatric Association (AFPA), Fountain House New York, Club House International, and Club House Europe and Pakistan Psychiatric Society.
The conference theme was “Club House Model, Innovations & Diversity in Mental Health Treatment” and several eminent speakers from all over the country, alongside many international academic and clinical mental health professionals, highlighted its importance.
The event comprised a good mix of plenary lectures, state of the art symposia, free paper sessions, electronic poster presentations as well as a full scientific programme, including deliberations from 120 speakers from 14 countries. These sessions brought together various organisations, field experts and enthusiast young psychiatrists to explore and share views about global and local aspects of the role of rehabilitation in international psychiatry also the theme of this conference. Conference and WPA President, Dr. Afzal Javed commented "I am pleased this conference also looked at strengthening collaborations among different mental health professionals. This will indeed prove beneficial in improving our links with all of these groups". Despite the current pandemic, Prof Dr. Nasar Sayeed Khan (Chairperson of the organising committee), his team, Prof Khalid Mufti and Prof Imran Ijaz Haider (Chairpersons of the scientific committee), all did their upmost to ensure an interesting and successful event.
