WPA has 145 member societies, mostly national psychiatric associations, and 36 affiliate member associations, representing some 250,000 psychiatrists worldwide.  We collaborate with our members to share best practices, bring a global perspective to local activities and to provide a united voice for psychiatry in the mental health sphere.

Whilst the WPA does not accept applications for individual memberships, the “special” category includes those individuals who have been awarded an honorary membership, fellowship or presidential commendation following an exceptional contribution to the practice of psychiatry.  Special memberships are nominated, agreed and conferred at triennial General Assembly meetings.
