On the anniversary of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, these international leaders in mental health expressed their concerns over the conflict in the region and agreed to work together to identify services and resources to support the many children, adolescents, and families that have been affected by the subsequent atrocities. This war has made 14.4 million people refugees (35% of the Ukrainian population), about half of whom have left Ukraine. These refugees include an estimated 5 million children, many of whom are unaccompanied or separated from their families.
The assembled leaders addressed this human catastrophe by offering their continued support for the Ukrainian people and mental health colleagues and collaborating in order best manage the overwhelming mental health needs, including the massive trauma facing the Ukrainian victims of this horrific and ongoing war. Professor Pinchuk reaffirmed Ukraine’s desire to work together with these distinguished world leaders in mental health to get much-needed support in the training and delivery of these services.
