With only days to go until the World Psychiatric Association's (WPA) online learning webinar - ‘Rethinking and experience sharing on Psychiatric Rehabilitation’ - it is timely to meet the world-class presenters who will be sharing their knowledge on this vital topic.


In a one-off, live, two hour event, Prof. Kamonnet Wannasewok and Prof. Tsuyoshi Akiyama will present on the concept of ‘Psychiatric Rehabilitation', with examples from Japan and Thailand to illustrate how psychiatric rehabilitation practice can make use of existing mental health, social care, housing care and spiritual care resources to create synergy in providing a culturally relevant and acceptable psychiatric rehabilitation model.


Prof. Kamonnet Wannasewok

Prof. Kamonnet Wannasewok, M.D. is an assistant professor of Psychiatry at the Department of Psychiatry, Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University in Bangkok, Thailand. She completed her master of rehabilitation counselling from the University of Sydney. She is interested in the field of psychiatric rehabilitation and is also a secretary of the World Psychiatric Association(WPA) scientific section on psychiatric rehabilitation.


Prof. Tsuyoshi Akiyama

Prof Tsuyoshi Akiyama is president-elect of the World Federation of Mental Health. He is clinical professor in the department of psychiatry at Tokyo University, president of the Japanese Society for the Elimination of Barriers to Mental Health, secretary-general of the Pacific Rim College of Psychiatrists and deputy chair of the International Committee of the Japanese Society of Psychiatry and Neurology. Prof. Akiyama has also previously served as secretary for finances of the World Psychiatric Association, the World Association of Cultural Psychiatry, and the Japanese Society of Psychiatry and Neurology.


Following the presentations, WPA’s Secretary of Education, Roger Ng, and Prof. Noppawan Tunsirimas will join Prof. Kamonnet Wannasewok and Prof. Tsuyoshi Akiyama to answer questions, discuss and debate this important component of comprehensive community-based mental health systems.
